Legende Automobiles Renault 5 Turbo 3 Black Edition
In July last year, we presented a planned new restomod here. Such conversions are becoming increasingly popular. There are variants of upgrading a classic vehicle using new technology, as well as making newer models look older. Legende Automobiles, a Californian company with French roots, has chosen an intermediate route. With the Renault 5 Turbo 3, they are bringing back a legendary mid-engined car from the 1980s, but with various modern elements. What’s more, a perfectly normal Renault 5 three-door serves as the basis. The development team’s specifications include two sentences: “What if there were no compromises? What if we used the best parts from the Turbo and Turbo 2 and only improved the electrics and weight with modern technology?”
Carbon fiber body panels give the Renault 5 the desired and popular look of the legendary Turbo version. Just ahead of the rear axle, a four-cylinder turbocharged engine with around 400 hp is to move in. This would make the restomod significantly faster and better powered than the 4,780 original examples of the Turbo and Turbo 2. Only the rally cars with which Renault competed in Group B at the time were also likely to have reached this power figure. In new computer-generated images, Legende Automobiles now shows an imaginary Black Edition. In keeping with the name, it has black paint on the body and inner rims. In addition, there is chopped carbon on the bumpers, the side air intakes and the aerodynamic elements in the roof area. So far, there is no completed Turbo 3, but we can only hope that this shortcoming will be remedied shortly.
