BMW M5 CS

For the first time in the model’s history, BMW is presenting the M5 as an exclusive limited CS. As with previous CS offshoots of other M model series, M GmbH focused on weight reduction and a gentle increase in performance. Strictly speaking, the M5 had no great need to catch up in the latter area in particular. Compared with the M5 Competition, which is still on offer, output has therefore only risen by a moderate ten to 635 hp (467 kW). Maximum torque remains at 750 newtonmeters. In conjunction with the standard eight-speed automatic transmission and the permanent xDrive all-wheel drive system, the car accelerates to 62 mph in just three and to 124 mph in 10.3 seconds.

70 kilograms lighter than the M5 Competition

After the gentle injection of power, we turn to the scales. The M5 CS weighs 70 kilograms less than the M5 Competition. This weight saving is made up of many small details. Inside, for example, a closed cover is used between the seats instead of an armrest. The hood, front spoiler, exterior mirror caps, roof, rear spoiler, rear diffuser, engine cover and intake silencer are all made of carbon fiber. It also gets a new stainless steel exhaust system. Springs and dampers have been retuned. Pirelli P Zero Corsa Track tires are fitted as standard on the 20-inch alloy wheels. Behind them sits a carbon-ceramic brake system with red or optional gold-colored calipers.

Black and red leather interior

Inside, the BMW M5 CS offers seating for up to four people. In the front, you sit on M-carbon seats, in the rear on two individual seats. All headrests are embossed with a silhouette of the Nürburgring circuit. And there are also illuminated M5 logos at shoulder height at the front. Matching the black Merino leather (partly finished in fine grain) are decorative stitching and contrasting surfaces in Mugello red. The zero markings on the steering wheel and the plus and minus indicators on the carbon shift paddles also feature red.

Yellow LED light tubes

For the body of the M5 CS, BMW offers the colors ‘Brands Hatch Grey metallic’, ‘Frozen Brands Hatch Grey metallic’ or ‘Frozen Deep Green metallic’. Frozen paints are given a matte finish. In contrast, the grille surrounds, ‘M5 CS’ badges and 20-inch forged wheels wear a ‘Gold Bronze’ paint finish. At the front, the L-shaped light tubes of the laser headlights shine in yellow instead of white. This happens when the Welcome Light is activated or when the low or high beams are switched on. M GmbH adopted this color from motorsport, where the headlights of GT vehicles are colored yellow. This serves to improve distinguishability at night, for example at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The new M5 CS will be available at BMW dealers in the spring. In Germany it costs from 180,400 €.
