Cobi Opel Rekord C Black Widow

Until the late 1960s, Opel wasn’t allowed to participate in motorsport events at the request of parent company General Motors. Nevertheless, a racing touring car based on the Rekord C was created under the direction of designer Anatole Lapine. The work was done in secret and ofter after hours. In the end, a black sports car with around 180 hp stood in the yard. Due to its sound and appearance, the car quickly received the internal nickname “black widow”. Later greats of the car scene such as Erich Bitter and Niki Lauda drove this Rekord C at various events between 1967 and 1969. However, despite good driving dynamics, the car was unable to score any major victories. In the early 1970s, Opel sold the “black widow” without its engine to Vienna, where the trace of the legendary race car was eventually lost. Since 2012, a faithful replica exists, which was built with the help of Lapine at Opel Classic.

The “black widow” is very well known among Opel fans all over the world. Wherever the replica appears at events today, it is immediately surrounded and celebrated. Now the vehicle can also be placed in a display case or on the office desk as a 1:12 scale model made from bricks. Cobi from Poland has provided this replica, which is assembled from 2,078 individual parts. Unlike some of its competitors in the bricks sector, Cobi completely dispenses with stickers and instead lovingly prints the bricks, some in multiple colors. Doors and hoods can be opened, and the steering wheel controls the front wheels, just like the original car. In addition to the version with starting number 201 (order number 24333), a Limited Edition with starting number 41 and matching base under the vehicle (order number 24332) is available directly from Cobi. While the normal version is available from toy dealers for around 120 €, the Limited Edition costs 169.90 €.
