Ford GT Carbon Series
After Ford recently announced to produce 350 additional copies of their supercar GT until 2022, a new limited special edition will now also follow within the production run. The Carbon Series is an indirect successor of the 2017 Competition Series, but it is not as radical in terms of weight reduction. It keeps the SYNC-3 infotainment system as well as air conditioning on board, while small things like the cup holders are deleted. Compared to the normal GT, the overall weight drops by 18 kilograms. This is due to the use of carbon rims, the titanium exhaust system, the titanium wheel bolts and a polycarbonate rear window with additional ventilation slots.
Compared to the previous GT special models, including the Heritage Editions, the Carbon Series now shows more bare carbon fiber in the form of two vertical racing stripes and the A-pillars, as well as on the sills and at the shiny rims. Inside, the sills, air outlets and center console show matte carbon fiber. Exterior mirrors, central stripe and calipers are optionally available in one of the four contrasting colors silver, orange, red or blue. Meanwhile, the seats and steering wheel show silver contrast stitching.
Applications for the final 350 copies of the Ford GT, which will roll of the production line from 2021, can be made from November 8 at www.FordGT.com for 30 days. Subsequently, as in the previous two rounds of applications, an internal commission at Ford decides who will get a car. Whether you opt for a normal Ford GT, the Heritage Edition or the Carbon Series is up to personal taste.
The Ford GT is in any case powered by a 3.5-liter V6 biturbo engine with 482 kW/656 hp and 746 newtonmeters of torque. In conjunction with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the supercar accelerates in 2.8 seconds from standstill to 62 mph and up to 216 mph topspeed.
