Hyundai Grandeur Heritage Series
After Hyundai presented a classic model with a restomod including electric drive for the first time in April, a second one is now following. Under the title “Heritage Series”, a whole pack seems to be gradually emerging here. The Pony made the start, and now the engineers have been working on a Grandeur for eight months. This prestigious mid-size sedan caused quite a stir in South Korea 35 years ago, but is little known beyond that. Since some design elements from the Pony can be found on the current electric car Ioniq 5, one could now assume that the upcoming Ioniq 6 might visually quote the Grandeur. However, until this assumption is clarified, the numerous details of the Grandeur Heritage Series should first be examined. The designers retained the clear edges and smooth surfaces of the 1986 model. All the lamps have been replaced by new LED components and the radiator grille has also been modified. Trim strips and side mirrors have been updated.
Smooth disc rims provide improved air resistance. Inside, Hyundai combines classic with modern. Behind the modernized single-spoke steering wheel is a digital display extending to the center of the dashboard. This complements a vertically arranged touchscreen display in the center console, which can be used to operate all climate, comfort and multimedia functions. It also has a digital piano function that turns the driver into a musician on the road. Hyundai has installed a matching 18-speaker four-way sound system, which is elegantly integrated into the furniture-like dashboard. Leather is only found on the seat backs, the dashboard and the door panels. The rest wears dark red velvet, which 35 years ago was considered to be of higher quality than leather, especially in Asia. Special club lights are built into the headliner above the rear seats.
