McLaren Sabre
McLaren presents the Sabre as the most powerful road car without hybrid drive. However, according to current plans, there will only be 15 units built exclusively for the US market. The carbon monocoque from the 720S and Senna serves as the basis. But the bodywork, which is also made of carbon fiber, has been given a completely independent design. In particular, the fenders with curved lines and the long roof fin that extends to the huge rear wing are new elements that were previously unheard of from McLaren. Overall, the look is still wild and tailored to aerodynamics, but much more pleasing than the intensively discussed Senna.
Directly behind the passengers sits the familiar V8 biturbo engine with four liters of displacement. Contrary to initial rumors, it doesn’t need an additional electric motor in the Sabre and produces 606 kW/824 hp. It also delivers a maximum torque of 800 newtonmeters to the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. McLaren specifies a topspeed of 218 mph. Originally, the Sabre was developed as project BC-03, and only five exclusive vehicles were to be built for selected US VIP customers of the MSO department (McLaren Special Operations). However, after some of these initial customers got a glimpse of the final design, they withdrew their pre-orders. McLaren went in search of other buyers and received significantly more commitments than previously thought. This led to an increase in the production figure to 15 units, all of which have already been pre-ordered and configured. The first four cars went to their respective new owners before Christmas. You can see two of them in our picture gallery.
