Renault 5 Prototype

As the first visible result of the ‘Renaulution’ future strategy announced today, Renault is presenting the 5 Prototype. The name already anticipates that the French manufacturer is apparently actually thinking about series production. Otherwise, the usual words ‘concept’ or ‘study’ would have been found here. In the next five years, Renault wants to devote more attention to the areas of technology, service and clean energy. Therefore, seven of the 14 new models announced until 2025 are to roll onto the market purely electrically. The new Renault 5 is likely to be one of them. However, Renault hasn’t yet released any more precise data on this retro model. It is therefore quite possible that the 5 will also be available with petrol, diesel or hybrid drive. Even a hydrogen-powered version could be in development.

Visually, the 5 Prototype takes up where the second-generation Renault 5 left off in 1996. Crisp proportions and the iconic shape of the headlights and taillights call the original model from 1972 directly to mind. On the hood, the loading port is hidden under the indicated air outlet. Above the passengers’ heads is a textile roof, which may be able to be opened in the production car. There are no pictures of the interior yet. Only a glimpse through the windshield shows the wide head-up display above the dashboard. A new interpretation of the Renault logo shines at the front, while the rear and wheel hubs show this logo linked to the model name. If development progresses quickly, the new model could be at dealerships in time for the 50th anniversary of the Renault 5.
