RML Short Wheelbase Car Zero

Back in May last year, the RML Group from Great Britain announced that it was working on a modern sports car inspired by the legendary Ferrari 250 GT SWB. In the meantime, the so-called “Car Zero”, i.e. the first pre-series car, is on its wheels. Since the RML Short Wheelbase isn’t intended to be a new supercar, it isn’t given an engine as its power source, through which it could hardly run because of too much power. Instead, the 485 hp naturally aspirated V12 engine and six-speed manual gearbox from the Ferrari 550 Maranello were chosen. Above it stretches a classically shaped body made of carbon fiber. However, this modern material is only visible in a few details, for example on the inside of the air intake of the hood. The headlights, grille, air intake, silhouette and taillights are strongly reminiscent of the 1960s model.

According to the original plan, the first production vehicles were to reach waiting customers as early as the end of 2021. However, the Corona pandemic and worldwide supply problems caused delays. The Car Zero is now entering road and endurance tests. Much of the testing will take place at the UTAC site (formerly known as Milbrook) in Bedfordshire. Previously, RML put the car in the photo studio to show the first shots of its real-life beauty. Once all the testing work has been successfully completed, production of the 30 customer cars will begin.
